The first step to any remodel begins with the design phase. Finding an interior designer that fits your style can be like trying to find the perfect bathing suit; tricky, uncomfortable and potentially a lengthy process. At Bamboo, we like to make things easier. We compiled a list of questions to help you shorten the process of finding a good interior designer to work with. Here is a list of the top 5 questions to ask your potential designer to see if they will be a good fit for you. This should save you time and get you on your way to designing your dream space!
First things first, let's talk budget. It is important to check that the designer you're interested in can give you the product you need for the budget you have. Bamboo designers bill hourly which dramatically reduces the price of getting your space re-designed. All of our designers are experts in their field and deliver awesome 3D renderings and visuals. This is sort of two questions, but they go hand-in-hand. Style is obviously one of the most important things to determine as a good fit when hiring a designer. If you are not sure on what your style is to spend a few hours browsing Pinterest or Houzz to see what catches your eye. Save ideas and inspirations to a board and then see if they match with the style of the designer you are interested in. Another way to check is to ask for portfolio photos of previous work your designer has done, it should be pretty easy to decide if you like the work they have done or not!
It is important to make sure that the designer you are working with has a reasonable time frame for finishing your project. Sometimes during the busy summer months, some designers can be backed up by a month or two. Double check that you are both on the same timeline for completion. Usually, around 2-3 weeks is a reasonable amount of time for a designer to make a plan with a few options, selections and anything else you might need.
This is more of an advanced question, and to learn more about design deliverable options, you can read our blog post here. All designers work in different programs and might give you different end results. Some interior designers still only work in 2D schematic floor plans, some might offer 3D interactive walkthroughs. Clarify what type of design plans you will be offered at the end of the process so that you are happy and ready to move on to the construction phase of your project.
This is an important question to clarify before signing any type of contracts with a designer. Some designers have very strict rules about how many times or how many options they will give you per project. Since Bamboo charges hourly, it means you can change the plan and design as many times as you want, as long as it fits into your budget. We want to make sure you are 100% happy with your design before we touch any sledgehammers.
